Jaclyn (Jackie) Sawicki is an accomplished midfielder. Dancing was originally Jackie’s activity of choice before she began playing soccer at age seven. Then for eight years she did both, ultimately deciding to quit dance to pursue a career on the pitch. Once she chose to pursue soccer, she played at the University of Victoria.
Throughout her university career, she was in and out of the U20 Canadian National Team and achieved her first international cap with the seniors when she was 18. During that time, she got a taste of what it was like to be a professional and she knew that was what she wanted.
Jackie’s mother played an instrumental role in her development as an athlete. Her mother had a modest, humble upbringing in the Philippines before immigrating to Canada, where she became the first person in her family to finish university. Jackie credits her mom for introducing her to soccer and keeping her in the sport. Some of Jackie’s career highlights are winning a Canada Games gold medal, competing at the 2012 U20 FIFA World Cup in Japan, competing in the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Australia/New Zealand, winning a bronze medal at the Southeast Asian Games, an AFF Championship gold medal, and being an A-League grand finalist with Western FC in their inaugural season.
Did You Know
Jackie’s favourite soccer memory is when she was singing the Philippine national anthem for the first time at the FIFA World Cup against Switzerland. When Jackie is not playing soccer, she enjoys getting some extra recovery with cold plunge and sauna sessions, spending quality time with her loved ones, and trying out a new café.
