CALGARY - Calgary Wild FC and Farkhunda Muhtaj have mutually agreed to part ways, effective immediately, the Club announced on Thursday.
“I’m grateful to have been part of Calgary WILD FC from the beginning and to have helped build something special in the first-ever professional women’s soccer league in Canada. I’m proud of what we built together, and the impact we made in the community. Wishing the club, my teammates, and the fans all the best both on and off the pitch”
Muhtaj made history as the first player to sign with Calgary Wild FC, helping establish the club’s identity and culture well before the team played its first match in the Northern Super League. Her influence extended far beyond the pitch. As the club’s Community Ambassador, she was instrumental in developing the Wild FC’s community and social impact program, using her platform to inspire young people — particularly girls with limited access to sport — to pick up soccer and pursue their dreams.
“On behalf of the entire organization, I want to sincerely thank Farkhunda for everything she has contributed to the Calgary Wild FC. She has been so much more than a player — she has been a leader, a role model, and a driving force in our community,” said Lara Murphy, chief executive officer, Calgary Wild FC.
“The impact she has made on this club, on this city, and on the growth of women’s soccer in Canada is something we will always be grateful for. She has generously shared her time, her story and her passion for making soccer accessible to everyone, and she has inspired countless young people along the way. We are grateful for everything Farkhunda has contributed to our club. We wish her nothing but the very best in her future endeavours, and we thank her for her contributions to our Club and the Northern Super League.”
