Media invited to join Goalkeepers at Ian Bazalgette School, and McMahon Stadium Locker Room Unveil on Friday
CALGARY—The Calgary Wild FC’s Canadian goalkeepers – Sarah Keilty-Dilling and Stephanie Bukovec along with Sonia O’Neill, the lone mother on the roster, will drop into Ian Bazalgette School on Friday morning to launch a special initiative in an effort to positively impact students just two days prior to the Club’s home opener.
The trio of players, along with the team’s newly unveiled mascot, Echo, will meet with the girls and boys soccer teams in the schoolyard, Friday, May 9 from 8:45-9:45 a.m., to launch a new program with the school that will provide a unique opportunity for the student body to have the opportunity to attend Caglary Wild FC home games during the first season. After motivating the students with a pre-game address, the Wild FC players will watch the students play a fun game of soccer on the pitch.
Prior to signing with the Calgary Wild FC for the inaugural season of the Northern Super League, Keilty-Dilling was a Phys Ed teacher and coach at Ian Bazalgette, located in the Forest Lawn area of the city, when the junior high school put a focus on improving its athletic program in an effort to positively impact the students – both academically and socially. It was here where the born and raised Calgarian was reminded of the powerful role sport plays in changing lives.
Keilty-Dilling and her goalkeeping teammates are now determined to leverage their platform on the Wild FC to transform the lives of the young Calgarians at the school by inviting them to discover their strengths and potential, while taking on challenges, through sport and play and the community program they will roll out in advance of their home opener.
Following the school appearance, media are invited to join the players at McMahon Stadium at 11:30 a.m. when they will rejoin their teammates to walk into their newly renovated locker room at McMahon Stadium for the first time.
The Calgary Wild FC will host Ottawa Rapid FC for their home opener, May 11 for a special Mother’s Day match at 5 p.m. Each of the players’ moms have been flown into Calgary, with the support of our generous partners at The Dorian and Cenovous, to walk their daughters onto the pitch for the historic first time at home for the Moms Make Champions match.
